Obituary

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Teresa A. Mertes, who passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 80.

Terry was born on August 17, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in Springfield, PA. She was selected to attend Pierce School of Business Administration where she earned her medical secretaryship degree. She later married and dedicated herself to raising a family of five children while pursuing careers in the medical field, as a secretary at Benedictine University and North Central College, and in education as a substitute teacher. Her passion for learning led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts from North Central College and a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University.

She was a cherished daughter of Daniel R. Sr. and Teresa A. (Rasinti) Acchione, a caring sister to Daniel Acchione, Jr., Thomas Acchione, and Diane Lovett, and a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was a devoted mother to Jude (Lily), Steven (Melissa), David (Leslie), Beth (Brian) Arbetman, and Teresa (Andrew) Newton.

Terry's strong faith guided her throughout life. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, regularly attending Bible studies and parish activities. She was deeply committed to her family, ensuring each of her children received a college education and supporting them in all their endeavors. Her kindness and nurturing spirit extended beyond her home, bringing comfort and encouragement to many.

Terry exemplified kindness, strength, and resilience. She loved quilting, crocheting, going to the opera, square dancing, baking, cooking, sewing, and gardening. Above all, she cherished her family, faith, and friends. Her generosity and warmth profoundly impacted many lives, leaving a lasting legacy.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren Abby, Aiden, Anthony, Christopher, David, Dylan, Emily, Ethan, Jacob, Jenna, JT, Liam, Mia, Natalie, and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel R. Sr., her mother, Teresa, and her brother, Daniel R. Jr.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, March 4 th , 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1501 W. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, IL 60490. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held privately. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff who cared for Terry over the past year. In honor of Terry's memory, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
