Obituary

Ruth Montalvo Sanz, aged 92, passed away peacefully at Senior Sunrise of Lincoln Park in Chicago, IL on June 7th, 2024.

Ruth was born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico June 7th, 1932 to Andres Montalvo and Rosa Amelia Martinez. After high school, Ruth moved to NYC and found a life-long career working at Bloomingdales. Ruth was a doting parent to her only child, Rose Marie, from her birth in 1962 to when Rose passed in 2014.

Ruth met her husband, Rose's step-father, Pedro Sanz de La Iglesia with whom she made a home with in Baltimore, Maryland where Pedro was a chef at Tio Pepe's restaurant for 20 years. Ruth was a devoted partner to Pedro from 1972 until he passed away in 1989.

Ruth's Catholic faith remained a constant strength throughout her life, as she was a faithful member of Most Precious Blood church in Queens, NY where she spent the majority of her life worshiping.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Andres Montalvo and Rosa Amelia Martínez; her brothers and sister Adherbal, Heriberto and Favorita Montalvo-Martínez; and daughter Rose Marie Bigit.

Ruth is survived by her brother Santos Wilson Montalvo-Martínez and sister Betsy Montalvo-Martínez; grandchildren, Bianca and Peter Bigit; as well as her nieces and nephews.

We will miss Ruth's love for classical music, adoration of dogs, homemade paella, and the endless love she had for her family.

Memorial Visitation will be held June 18th, 2024 at Farenga Funeral Home, 38-08 Ditmars Blvd Astoria, NY 11105 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

A memorial mass will follow the same day at 5:00 p.m. at Most Precious Blood Church, 32-23 36th St Astoria, NY 11106.

Ruth will be entombed privately with family at St. Michael's Cemetery the same afternoon.
