IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert William
Schu
May 25, 1944 – June 24, 2024
Robert William Schu, passed away peacefully on June 24 at the age of 80. Loving husband of 52 years to Rosemary Schu nee Banas, Bob was one of three graduates in the first class of Biomedical Engineering majors at the University of Illinois (Circle Campus). Working at hospitals throughout the Chicagoland area and in Seattle/Tacoma, Washington, he was instrumental in creating the first mobile mammogram trailer to visit inner city Chicago sites. An avid bowler and golfer, Bob enjoyed reading, watching sci-fi movies, the White Sox, and da Bears. Bob's greatest joy was his family. A devoted husband to Rosemary, he was the proud father of Dawn (Gary) Unger, Cyndi Schu, Lauran Schu, and Jonathan (Erin) Schu. Following in his footsteps, all four children graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago. There was no prouder dad at those graduations. His inspiration, strong faith, devotion, and dedication to his wife and children will forever be in their hearts.
A proud Poppie to Aurora, Lorelei, and Delilah Unger, and a fun Pop-Pop to Harper and Rex Schu and Ana Lara, Bob loved spending time with all of his grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Viola, Bob is also survived by his sister Linda (late Tom) O'Toole and nephew Kevin (Robin) O'Toole and niece Maureen O'Toole. He was a cousin, uncle, and friend to many. His caring heart, welcoming smile, and positive outlook on life was contagious. Bob made everyone feel welcomed, and always enjoyed entertaining a house full of people. Bob was an Army Veteran and a lifelong American Legion Post 0777 member. He was a long-time volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Misericordia.
