Jaworski, Penelope V. (Penny) died peacefully on Thursday, February 25th following an extended illness. She was 72. Penny was the eldest child of Philip Jaworski and Gertrude (nee Zapf), loving sister of Douglas "Butch" and of Susan (deceased) and brother-in-law Michael Olk, loving aunt of Penny Sue (Dave Dudley), Tammy (Robert Radvanovsky) and Gary Olk and great aunt to Stephanie and Zachery Olk.
Penny grew up in the Old Irving Park neighborhood, graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended classes at Loyola University. In the early 1970s the Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish hired her and for the next 40 years she worked in many capacities including secretary, youth minister, parish staff liaison to the Parish's Pastoral Council and Commissions, chair of the Elizabeth Ministry, Chair of IC's Parish annual picnic.
Penny loved being a member of: Teens Encounter Christ (TEC), OATS a prayer group sponsored by IC open to high school seniors and college students, the local Chicago Chapter of Contemplative Outreach's Centering Prayer and Living Flame spiritual lecture series, the International Thomas Merton Society and The Community of Passionist Partners.
Penny had a great fondness for reading books of all kinds, cookbooks, philosophy, scripture, prayer and meditation, poetry. She enjoyed concerts by the Chicago Metropolitan Apollo Chorus and the Lyric Opera. She frequented local theatre productions like The Blue Nativity, and participated in craft fairs, decorating and baking for the holidays...offering her variation of Irish Soda Bread.
Most of all, Penny loved people and sent hundreds of birthday wishes, get-well greetings, Christmas and anniversary cards, as well as e-mails to students and friends around the globe, including to Rome, Italy and India. Penny was always available, a true life long friend, who knew the meaning of fidelity and love, and
will always be in our hearts!
Memorial visitation Saturday, March 12 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00 a.m., 7211 W. Talcott, Chicago. Inurnment St. Adalbert Cemetery.
