Dr. Norbert T. Bunish, 90, passed away on June 21, 2022. Loving husband of the late Mary Jo Bunish (nee Valentino) of 36 years; beloved father of Lisa (Jaime) Galvan; cherished grandpa of Kimberly Marie Galvan and Matthew James Galvan; devoted brother of the late Victor Bunish Jr. and the late Marion Bunish; precious son of the late Helen Kazmierczak, the late Victor Bunish, and the late Frank Prima; beloved godfather, uncle and friend to many.

Norbert was a proud US Marine Veteran of the Korean War and a deeply dedicated educator and guidance counselor in the Chicago Public Schools for over 40 years. He positively impacted the lives of many students.

Norbert received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Chicago, a master's degree from Loyola University and another master's degree from DePaul University. He received his PhD from Nova University. Norbert was an active member of the Aquin Guild of Chicago and was recognized with a distinguished service award in 1980 for his work in the schools. He served as treasurer of the Chicago Guidance and Personnel Association from 1985-1989. Norbert loved history, geography, mathematics, and world travel. He was a lifelong Chicago sports fan with his most favorite team being the Chicago Cubs. He fondly remembered attending the 1945 World Series at Wrigley Field!

Visitation Friday, July 1st at Kolbus-John V. May Funeral Home, 6857 W. Higgins Ave., Chicago, from 3pm-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Saturday, July 2nd at 10:30 am. Interment Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, Niles, IL.
