Kevin G. Powers, 67, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026. He now joins his beloved Mary in eternal rest.
Kevin was a devoted and caring father to JoDel (Brian) and Jason, and a proud grandfather to Jacob and Gunnar, who brought him immense joy. He was a fond brother to Kate (Oscar) and Whitey (Martha), and was preceded in death by his brothers Mike (Karla), James (Patti), and Tom (Debbie). Kevin was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, and held a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law Marge, all of the Bennan girls. He is also reunited with his loving parents, William and Helen.
Kevin dedicated over 40 years of his life to working on the railroad, a career he took great pride in. His time there helped spark a lifelong passion as a weather enthusiast, always keeping a close eye on forecasts and conditions. Outside of work, Kevin was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his favorite teams.
He found peace and happiness in the simple moments, especially tending to his backyard garden alongside Mary. Together, they also gave their time generously, volunteering at local AA gardens, forming lasting connections within their community.
Kevin graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1977 in Dubuque, IA, before making his way to Chicago to begin his long career with the railroad. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to family, and the quiet ways he showed care and kindness to those around him.
Kevin’s legacy lives on in the love he shared, the family he cherished, and the countless memories that will continue to bring comfort to all who knew him.
