John Podlesny, age 79, dearly loved by his wife of 53 years, Rose (nee Szczesny); son of the late John and Valerie "Clara" (nee Gorak); adoring father of Laura; cherished grandfather of Abel and Ariel Bastida. John passed away November 12, 2013. A native of Chicago, he attended Lane Tech High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John was a kind, honest and funny person. He loved his job at United Airlines and his humor and good nature earned him the nickname "Mr. United" by the colleagues he called family for more than 40 years as an airline storekeeper. A celebration of John's life will be held Monday 10:00 A.M. at Kolbus-John V. May Funeral Home, 6857 W Higgins Ave., Chicago. Visitation Sunday, from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
