Zuehlke, Frank R., LTC Frank R. Zuehlke US Army retired, Age 88. Beloved husband of 53 years to Ruth, nee Toltzman; loving father of Rebecca (Mike) Bertermann and Judith (Merel) Frank; dear grandfather of Rebecca, Rachel, Nathan Frank and Ethan, Abigail, Caleb Bertermann. He was a life member of the Park Ridge VFW Post 3579, Chapter 6 of the ROA and the Chicago Chapter of MOWW, He was also a member of Morton Grove Post 134 of the American Legion, the National Counter Intelligence Corp Association, GAPA, and PAPA. He enlisted in the Illinois State Militia in 1943 and then took a discharge to enlist in the regular Army Air Force. After his training in Texas, he was selected for training as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corp. He was sent to the Philippines and Okinawa where he conducted numerous investigations concerning treason, sedition, sabotage, and subversive activities. He was one of the agents assigned to investigate and break up the large black market in Manila. Upon his return to the United States, he enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard and received a commission as an Infantry Officer in the 33rd Infantry Division. In 1968, he transferred to the Army Reserve and graduated from many advanced officer schools including the Command and General Staff College. He retired in 1978 with over 34 years of service and was placed on the Illinois Army National Guard retired list as a Colonel. He later retired as supervisor from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989. Funeral Service Saturday, Lying in State from 8:30a.m. until time of Service 9:30a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church 5650 N. Canfield Ave., Chicago. Interment Fort Sheridan Cemetery.
