David Robert Newhouse, 79, of Norwood Park Township, passed away at home on August 30, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born in Chicago on November 11, 1945, David grew up in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963. He served with pride on active duty until 1966 with Fighter Squadron 102. After returning to Chicago, he co-founded Meridian Mechanical Corporation in Elk Grove Village, building a successful business through grit, long hours, and refusing to back down from a challenge.

David married Arleen Newhouse (née Dynowski, formerly Temple) and together they raised a blended family that was the center of his life: Robert (Lynn) Temple, Hallie (Rob) Leach, Christopher Newhouse, and Matthew (Anthony) Newhouse. He was a proud Papa to Kathryn Hartikka, Emily (Lukas) Temple - Tresemer, Jack, Ethan, Charles, and Thomas Leach, and Addyson Newhouse.

He loved hot rods, motorcycles, boats, bowling, and music—and out of dozens of cars, none beat his emerald green '36 Ford coupe. He also devoted years of leadership and service to his churches, Pennoyer Elementary School Board, the Masons, and the Order of the Amaranth.

David was tough-minded, opinionated, and never shy about calling out bad drivers or bad manners. But those who knew him best knew his fierce love for family, his loyalty to friends, and his willingness to give his time and energy to the people and organizations he cared about.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, and a life lived on his own terms.

Visitation Monday, September 8, 2025 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Service Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Kolbus May Funeral Home, 6857 W. Higgins Avenue, Chicago. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
