IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christopher La'Mar
King
December 22, 1978 – April 30, 2025
Christopher La'mar King, 46, loving husband of Laura; devoted father of Remington, Lexington, and Reddington; treasured brother of Brandon King and Britney King; dedicated son of Sandra and Cornelius King; cherished son-in-law of Carol (the late Jack) Tipre; caring brother-in-law of Jacob (Susan) Tipre, Karen (Josh) Hess, and Michelle (Andy) Aparicio; affectionate uncle of Abigail, Meghan, Grace, Joy, Charity, Ashley and Maggie; honorary loving family member of the Van Houten and Basiorka families; and cousin and friend of many.
Chris was the kind of person you never forgot after meeting. A big kid at heart, he approached life with the same curiosity, excitement, and mischief that he brought to everything he did. Whether it was playing video games on his PlayStation, or lighting up the smoker for another batch of legendary brisket, Chris did it all with joy, passion, and full-hearted dedication. He was a highly respected black belt in Hapkido, known throughout the martial arts community for both technical mastery and unwavering discipline. Chris's presence was synonymous with precision, power, and a deep respect for Hapkido's traditions.
More than anything, Chris loved being a dad. Raising his children wasn't just a responsibility—it was his greatest adventure. He poured time, energy, and unconditional love into his family, finding magic in the everyday moments. From school projects to his executive chef skills, and heartfelt conversations, Chris was there, fully present, helping shape the lives of his kids with wisdom and warmth. He relished in making meals for the kids and always anxiously awaited their critique, even though 99% of the time it was a "ten out of ten dad!".
A history buff to the core, Chris could trace a timeline or unpack a battle strategy like a professor, yet he spoke with the ease and humor of a best friend. He had the rare gift of being able to talk to anyone, regardless of age or background. He was equally at home deep in intellectual debate as he was cracking jokes to lighten the mood. And he loved to get a reaction—whether it was laughter, surprise, or even a stern conversation. For Chris, connecting emotionally was the highest form of communication.
Known far and wide as the king of brisket smoking, Chris didn't just make food—he created experiences. Every gathering around his smoker was more than a meal; it was a celebration of community and comfort. Knowledgeable and curious, playful and profound, Chris left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He lived life with heart, humor, and a deep sense of connection—and in doing so, he made the world around him a warmer, more vibrant place.
Funeral Services will be private, in lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the go fund me to assist Chris's family.
